  Classical Analysis Conference

   Preliminary Schedule

   

The conference will be on the general topic of classical analysis.  One of the topics emphasized will be the works of X. Tolsa.  We view classical analysis to include a broad range of areas: Banach Spaces, analytic functions, geometric function theory, operators on function spaces, several complex variables, etc.

 

Two of the one-hour addresses at the conference will be given by Professor C.  Sundberg discussing the proofs of Tolsa’s theorem; other invited addresses will be by J. McCarthy, A. Nicolau, K. Seip and S. Richter .

 

The conference is funded by the National Science Foundation, the Department of Mathematics, the University of North Carolina and MSRI.

We encourage minorities, women and younger Ph.D.'s to consider attending.

 

1.  Dates:  Friday, Sept. 7, Saturday, Sept. 8 and Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007.  Registration will begin at 9:15 am on Friday, Sept. 7 in Phillips Hall, Third Floor.  There will be a short address by the Dean of Sciences at 9:45 and the first invited address will begin at 10:00 a.m.; the conference will end with a final one-hour address from 1:30--2:30 pm on Sunday, Sept. 9.  There will be a reception at 6:30 Friday evening.

3.  The airport is RDU (Raleigh-Durham, NC).  There are several taxi firms

     that charge one flat fee which can be split if two or more people use the

     same taxi.

4.  The city of Chapel Hill (www.ci.chapel-hill.nc.us) and the university (unc.edu) have web pages that you can access for local information -- maps, restaurants, buses, etc.

 

 

 The NSF grant will provide at least partial funding for expenses of graduate students and recent Ph.D.'s with no other source of support. Application forms for financial support will be available at the conference.


 Foreign attendees really need something other than an H1B Visa in order to receive reimbursement for per diem expenses, for example, a J1  Visa or a waiver for business.  The funding agency (NSF) has no money for travel from points outside the

United States.
