Once we begin working with problems that involve variables in an exponent, we need to develop a tool that will allow us to "reclaim the variable from the exponent."

That is to say, many real world problems lead to a question such as:

"What exponent is needed if we wish to use base 2
to produce the number  64 ?"

In other words, "what value of x will solve the equation  ?"

To answer such questions we will use a mathematical tool called a "Logarithm."

A Logarithm is one of the most useful tools in all of mathematics.

In this lesson we will learn how to use logarithms to simplify and solve a variety of algebar and real world problems.
