Another very special type of x-y equation produces a graph
that is a circle. But what does "circle" mean? You are probably thinking "well, it's perfectly round." But what do we mean by "perfectly round" ? As in the case with linear graphs, we need to make our description more precise.
Both of these shapes are round, but only the second shape is a circle. In fact,a circle is"perfectly round" because each point along the edge of the circle is the same distance from the center point. This fact serves as the fundamental property of circles. Our goal is to construct an x-y equation which represents this fact. |
